Streszczenie
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are synthetic chemicals used for manyyears as flame retardants in plastic. Their molecules are not chemically boundto the polymers and gradually escape from products. They bio-accumulate inlipid tissue and biomagnified in the food chain. PBDEs are endocrine disruptorsand have neurotoxic properties. The data about their contents in 500 samplesof Polish food of animal origin were recently published. The 98.8% of sampleswere contaminated with at least one PBDE congener. In June 2023, the ContamPanel of EFSA concluded that it is likely that current dietary exposure to PBDEsin the European population raises a health concern.
