    Streszczenie
In this review the obligate intracellular bacterial pathogens that parasitize hostsfrom humans to amebae were presented. Family Chlamydiaceae has undergoneextensive taxonomic revisions and genera Chlamydia and Chlamydophila areproposed. Constantly increasing number of data concerning these bacteriawere published in the last decade. The advance of whole genome sequencingapplication has led to detection of new chlamydial species and genotypes. Thenew taxa have been found in birds (C.avium, C.gallinacea, C.buteonis and C.ibidis– Cand., Candidatus taxon), as well as in reptiles (C. serpentis, C. poikilotherma,C. crocodili Cand., C.corallus Cand., C. testudinis and C. sanizinia Cand.). Moreover, species definition of well-known C.abortus has been extended and it includesnow also avian strains. Notably, Chlamydia species hosted by birds may presentrisks of zoonotic infections. However, the epidemiology of chlamydiosis is stillunexplored phenomenon. Reports suggest domestic and companion birdsmight be a neglected reservoir of chlamydial pathogens which may threatenthe poultry production and present risks to public health in China. Furthermore,it is unknown if all new species and candidates may have impact on publichealth. New Chlamydia species occur in various environments worldwideincluding also Poland.
